AN IN-PERSON EVENT RECOMMENDED BY THE OFFICE FOR PROMOTING CHRISTIAN UNITY AND RELIGIOUS RELATIONS WITH JUDAISM

Join Christians from various traditions to celebrate the faith we share in Jesus Christ throughout 2025 as we mark the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea with an event a month.

In January, St. Augustine’s Seminary through its Divina Eloquia series, offers us the unique witness of Marius Victorinus during the Festival of Faith for Christian Unity.

Victorinus became a Christian in Rome in the mid-fourth century during the Arian controversy, which questioned Christ’s full divinity. He was one of the first theologians to address the Trinity, distinguishing the “One” and “Three” in Greek, and establishing key Latin terminology to defend the full divinity of Christ.

This talk will explore his life and contribution to the apostolic faith and will explore the confusion over language and terminology in both the East and West, which was later clarified at the Council of Constantinople (AD 381).
