Cardinal Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, offered Tuesday’s Mass at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica to the people of Nova Scotia, after the terrible violence that occurred there on the weekend.

“Today, I think especially, we should pray for the repose of the souls of those people who were killed in the terrible tragedy in Nova Scotia,” Cardinal Collins said. “May the Lord bless all of those who mourn them and may peace be brought into their hearts.”

Cardinal Collins also prayed the Eternal Rest Prayer for the dead:

Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord
and let perpetual light shine upon them.

May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Masses are still being celebrated daily in every church in the Archdiocese of Toronto and clergy can use the following intention, if they don’t have another intention planned:

We pray for the repose of the souls of those who died in the tragic shooting in Nova Scotia last weekend. May the Risen Lord heal the brokenness felt by those who grieve their deaths. And may we all embrace peace and cherish the gift of life. We pray to the Lord.

It would be a loving act if all the faithful of the Archdiocese of Toronto prayed for the people of Nova Scotia at this time.
