Email Scam Targets Parishioners

In recent days, parishioners from a number of Archdiocese of Toronto churches have been targets of an email scam, similar to one orchestrated a year ago.

The scammer is creating Gmail accounts and using them to impersonate parish priests. Typically, the scammer emails parishioners posing as a priest and requesting gift cards.

Please be cautious when checking your email. Verify email requests for money or gift cards by phoning the parish at a known phone number (not a phone number listed in the email).

If you receive a suspected scam email from someone claiming to be one of our priests, please bring it to the attention of your pastor and ask him to forward the message to the Archdiocese of Toronto’s Help Desk.
