(April 21, 2017) As widely reported in the media, an incident of arson on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017, forced the temporary closure of St. John the Evangelist Church (49 George St., Weston). The parish shared surveillance footage from the incident with police shortly thereafter. Authorities released images to the public Sunday afternoon and the suspect was apprehended on Monday, April 17, 2017.

Repairs to the church began on Monday and will continue for several weeks. Due to the diligent efforts of the repair workers, we are pleased to share news that the first stage of restoration has been completed and the parish will operate a normal weekend schedule on April 22/23, 2017.

Mass times are as follows:
Saturday – 5:00 p.m., Sunday – 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m.

Daily Mass during the week will be celebrated in the parish hall if the church is not available due to ongoing repairs. Parishioners are encouraged to visit the St. John the Evangelist Parish website for any additional updates: https://stjohntheevangelistwe.archtoronto.org/

We express our gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support from the community and for the continued leadership of the parish team, led by Fr. Andrew Maderak.
